We are reimagining the Canyon Ministries backpacking program and look forward to offering new ways to experience Grand Canyon’s remarkable backcountry in the future.
Following the devastating flooding in Bright Angel Canyon—and the extensive trail and campground closures that resulted—we placed our backpacking trips on hold. We are now using this unexpected pause as an opportunity to revitalize the program, explore a fresh approach, and prepare for future trips that will serve our guests even better.
Our plans are still taking shape, and we do not yet have a timeline for when trips will resume. But we are excited about what lies ahead and look forward to sharing more as the next chapter unfolds.

What Makes Canyon Ministries Different?
A backpacking adventure with Canyon Ministries is far more than a “walk through the park.” While the scenery is awe-inspiring, it’s the biblical insights that make our adventures truly life-changing. Throughout each trip, we dive deeply into discussions about the area’s unique features, connecting them to the events of Creation and the Flood as described in Genesis.
We explore different models explaining geological formations, assess the evidence right before us, and draw conclusions about which model best aligns with what we see. As we recognize how God’s hand has shaped these incredible landscapes, we gain a deeper understanding of His character and His boundless love. This is sure to be a faith-affirming journey you’ll never forget!

Our goal in conducting trips is to bring glory to God in all we do and to help people grow closer to our Creator while in His creation. Along with the rocks that cry out, we boldly proclaim the name of Jesus as part of God’s creation.
