Things to do at and around the Grand Canyon South Rim

Grand Canyon Mule Trip – For only a few hours along the canyon’s rim, to an overnight adventure down to Phantom Ranch, go back in time on a Wild West mule ride.

 

Bike Along the Rim – Rent a bike from Bright Angel Bicycles and pedal your way along the rim either east or west.  Skip the crowds and catch some fresh air!

 

IMAX Theater – Movie theater with a 6-story-high by 82-ft.-wide screen showing a documentary on the Grand Canyon. (The movie does not present a biblical view of the canyon, but has some spectacular views of the canyon.)

Things to do around Sedona, Arizona

Sedona Jeep Tour – See the amazing red rocks of Sedona on a guided jeep tour available from several companies.

 

Devil’s Kitchen Sinkhole – Take a short hike to see the 660-foot-deep sinkhole.

 


Things to do around Flagstaff, Arizona

 

Lowell Observatory – Historic place where Pluto was discovered.  When built in 1895, the Clark was the largest refracting telescope in the Western Hemisphere.

 

Bearizona – A Drive-thru wildlife park featuring North American mammals exhibited in natural environments. In nearby Williams, just 30 minutes from Flagstaff.

 

Meteor Crater – Home to one of the world’s largest and best-preserved meteorite impact sites on the planet!  Once mined for iron, nickel, and cobalt from the meteor.

 

Arizona Snowbowl – One of the largest and best ski resorts in Arizona.  Offers snow-laden slopes in winter, and stunning ski lift rides in summer of the entire landscape.

 

Visit Page – At nearby Page, you can explore Lake Powell, the Glen Canyon Dam, and shimmy through stunning slot canyons.  Read below for things to do in Page.

 

Dinosaur Tracks – North of Flagstaff and 5 minutes off US-89, you can visit the Tuba City Dinosaur Tracks.  Free to visit, but tipping the local guides is encouraged.

 


Things to do around Page, Arizona

 

Upper Antelope Canyon – The most famous and photogenic of the two sections. Shaped like a ∧. Wider at bottom than at top.  Advance tickets are required.

 

Lower Antelope Canyon – Voted the most fun of the two to explore. Shaped like a V, wider at top than at bottom. Less claustrophobic. Advance tickets are required.

 

Antelope Canyon X – Not quite as spectacular as Upper or Lower Antelope, but a great alternative if you want to avoid crowds, or the other tours are booked up.

 

Visit Horseshoe Bend – Famous bend of the Colorado River through Glen Canyon.  About halfway from the dam to the beginning of Grand Canyon at Lees Ferry.

 

Horseshoe Bend Helicopter Tour – An incredibly scenic way to see the Glen Canyon Dam, Colorado River, and world-famous Horseshoe Bend from the air.

 

Lake Powell and Horseshoe Bend Airplane Tour – Fly over the stunning red rock formations and azure waters of Lake Powell on your wat to see Horseshoe Bend.

 


Things to do around Las Vegas, Nevada

 

Grand Canyon West Helicopter Tour – Visit Grand Canyon West on the Hualapai Nation and also take a scenic helicopter flight to the bottom of the Grand Canyon.

 

Grand Canyon West River Trip – Fly on a helicopter to the floor of the Grand Canyon, then board a boat for a river trip on the Colorado River.  Fly back up to the top.

 

Hoover Dam Tour – Whether by bus or by helicopter, a tour of the Hoover Dam is filled with stunning scenery and history of America’s largest concrete structure.

 

Valley of Fire State Park – Otherworldly rock formations and surprising geology can be found at this state park just outside Vegas.  They also have daily tours too.

 

Clark County Museum – A great natural history museum featuring Nevada state history, mining, and complete with a “Ghost Town” and lots of historic buildings.
