Is the Grand Canyon Open Right Now?
Even in the midst of a government shutdown, the Grand Canyon remains open—and so do we. Canyon Ministries is still running all scheduled tours, providing the opportunity to experience the wonder of the canyon with guides who love to share both its beauty and its story.
What This Means for Your Visit
According to the National Park Service’s contingency plan, during a lapse in government funding:
- The park will remain accessible. Roads, lookouts, and trails generally stay open to the public.
- Basic services may be limited. Trash collection, restroom facilities, road maintenance, and information updates may be reduced.
- Park staff presence is minimal. Law enforcement and emergency services remain in place, but other services—like interpretive programs and visitor centers—may be suspended.
- Concessioners and tour operators (like Canyon Ministries) are permitted to continue operations as long as they do not require additional NPS staffing beyond what is already designated.
Because we operate under these guidelines, our tours will continue uninterrupted, though you may notice fewer support services within the park itself.
Our Commitment to You
We understand that uncertainty can make planning stressful, and things can always change with the government and the park. That’s why we offer this guarantee:
If, for any reason, the park is closed entirely during the shutdown, we will provide full refunds for all booked tours.
Your experience, safety, and peace of mind remain our highest priority.
Why Still Come?
Even in times of government shutdown, the Grand Canyon stands as a powerful reminder of God’s creation and His steadfastness. With fewer services available, it can be an even more peaceful time to experience the canyon’s grandeur—and our guides will be right there with you to help bring its story to life.
