70 never looked so young

As the Colorado River runs through the Grand Canyon, it creates some of the greatest whitewater rafting in the world.  The ride is truly exhilarating.  It’s not just a grand canyon, but a grand adventure of personal discovery and deep connecting with your creator.

Two elderly ladies from Canada brought energy and spice to a river trip this past June.  Both live in an assisted living apartment that I am sure is anything but ordinary with them around.  Their trip began as a conversation that one was having with a group at the apartment complex.  She was sharing her desire to go whitewater rafting in the Grand Canyon, but had no one to go with.  The other lady was walking by and overheard the conversation.  She bopped her head in the door and said, “I’ll go!”  Their trip was born.

These 70+ year old ladies commanded the front of the raft day in and day out.  They leaned into every wave begging for more and challenging the boatman to attack the rapids with great fury.  When everybody else was hunkering into they rain gear cold and shivering, they were up front screaming, “Bring it on!  More!”  They began and ended each day with singing loud and proud and drew others in to do the same.  70 years old never looked so young.

In honor of these lovely ladies, I share the verse they shouted from the raft top each day.

“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!” Psalm 118:24

Praiseallujiah!
