Bending and Believing
Kathleen and I had the privilege of hiking in Sedona with Guy Forsythe on December 17. Guy is the founder of Crying Rocks Ministry in Sedona. Please take the time to check out his website at www.cryingrocks.org. Guy was gracious enough to take some time and show us the folding in the Coconino sandstone found around Sedona.
This is the same Coconino sandstone that is the third layer in the Grand Canyon. This particular sandstone has been the focus of conflict in regards to its origin. The evolutionist perspective has been presenting this layer as an ancient desert that sat exposed for millions of years before being buried and compacted by the arrival of the water deposited Toroweap layer above it. The canyon itself contradicts this interpretation in its exposure of the Coconino layer. Two significant evidences for the Coconino as a water deposited layer found in the canyon are: 1) the angle of the cross bedding found throughout the layer -these diagonal layers are at a slant consistent with underwater dunes rather than desert dunes. 2) the presence of fossilized trackways as seen just above soap creek rapid. These evidences alone are compelling reasons to interpret the Coconino as aquas just as the other layers are. With that said, the evidence that is exposed in Sedona is incredible.
Take a close look at the pictures above. Notice the cross bedding on the second photo. The angles are clearly visible. However, there is something strange about these cross bed layers. They are bent. They fold back against themselves before bending back again. The first picture is even more striking in the extreme fold that is in the layers. This is sandstone bent like a piece of child’s clay. Folds like this do not take place in dry, brittle deserts. However, sandstone laid down in water will bend before or as it is solidifying.
Just one more reason to believe the Biblical account of the flood!
