Biblical Inerrancy vs Millions of Years
by Dr. Terry Mortenson Answers in Genesis In 1978, 307 Christian leaders and scholars gathered in Chicago for what became known as the International Council on Biblical Inerrancy (ICBI), which met many times over the next 10 years. They sought to defend the doctrine of the inerrancy of Scripture in the face of the growing liberalism in the church. As a result, they published the “Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy” (CSBI) and the “Chicago Statement on Biblical Hermeneutics” (CSBH). These documents recognized that “the total truth and trustworthiness of Holy Scripture
Wintertime Wonderland
2016 brought more than 6 million people to the Grand Canyon. The vast majority of excited Grand Canyon visitors experienced the canyon during the summer months. Certainly, Grand Canyon is a magnificent travel destination during that time. However, have you considered encountering Grand Canyon during the winter? I highly recommend you do, and here are some of the top reasons why. Fewer People The traffic and crowds swell at Grand Canyon during those busy summer months. Although the people-watching is quite intriguing, those crowds can be limiting to where you
The Need for a New Beginning
This world is not my home I’m just a-passing through My treasures are laid up Somewhere beyond the blue. The angels beckon me From heaven’s open door And I can’t feel at home In this world anymore. Albert E. Brumley penned this beautiful hymn in 1965. He recognized the longing of the heart to be with our Savior forever. This is the hope of the Saints. Our Creator God also renews and restores the fallen and rebellious heart. Hebrews 11 recounts for us the cloud of witnesses that have gone before us that clung to the
A Dream Fulfilled, Nearly Ten Thousand Miles Away
Sometimes the tours we do are a huge blessing and joy even for us as tour guides. I recently had the amazing opportunity to give a Grand Canyon sunset tour to a group I will never forget. On a recent tour we had a group of 4 - Rhoda and her husband Randy, and Rhoda’s parents Maynard and Emily. Rhoda and her family were from Malawi, Africa where her father spent years as a geography teacher. Rhoda had moved to America and recently married Randy. Her parents were now
God Is Still On His Throne
The recent election has driven many Christians to find hope in the assurance that, “God is still on His throne.” In fact, I too expressed this confidence in a Facebook post about 2 weeks before the election. But what does that mean? What are we attempting to express to ourselves and others? Psalm 103:19 says, “The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all.” Jesus says in Matthew 28:18, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Paul writes about Jesus
Fall Colors
Fall is synonymous with crisp air, mild temperatures, vibrant colors, alluring aromas, and change (and football…just saying). Leaves that once melded into the landscape now stand apart vibrantly, dazzling the eyes with color. The wind enriches the display by causing the leaves to dance, generating a 3D image of pigment and action. The fresh air and fall aroma contribute a 4th dimension to complete the experience. The fall landscape is transformed from a blur of green hues to a tapestry of brilliant color. God’s creation is shouting a reminder
2016 River Season
The 2016 river season has run its course. As always, it is nearly impossible to find words that aptly describe the experience. However, one possibility may be, “HOT”. I think a vacation in Antarctica sounds quite pleasant. A balmy 20 degrees below zero is not a terrible thought for me right now. However, the heat never interfered with the joy and delight of what we were privileged to do. One of the most life-changing stops on an upper river trip is Blacktail Canyon. There are 3 pieces to this
Train Day! – New Train and Sunset Tours!
There are many exciting ways to interact with the geology and history of Grand Canyon. Rafting and hiking the Canyon appeals to the adventure seekers of the world and never disappoints. Exploring the rim of Grand Canyon by car, bus, foot, or bike is exceptionally breath-taking, but does not require the level of adventure associated with hiking and rafting. Straddling the back of a mule is another entertaining option for canyon exploration. Tourism at Grand Canyon got a mammoth boost in September of 1901 when the Santa Fe Railroad
Answers in Genesis – Ark Encounter Ribbon Cutting
On July 5, my wife Paula and I (along with 7,000 others) had the privilege of attending the ribbon cutting for the opening of Answers in Genesis’ Ark Encounter in northern Kentucky. The ark is a full-sized replica of Noah’s Ark as described in the Bible. It is 510 feet long (approximately one and one half times the length of a football field), 85 feet wide (about one-half the width of a football field), and 51 feet high (almost 7 stories) and the largest timber frame structure in the
How US Air Travel was Affected by a Grand Canyon Disaster
On June 30, 1956, Trans World Airlines Flight 2, a Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation with 64 passengers and 6 crew members departed Los Angeles bound for Kansas City at 9:01 AM on an IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) flight plan and a planned altitude of 19,000’. Three minutes later, United Airlines Flight 718, a DC-7 with 53 passengers and 5 crew members departed Los Angeles climbing to 21,000’ bound for Chicago. The planes’ paths would cross with 2,000’ of vertical separation approximately over the Grand Canyon. Shortly after takeoff, TWA
