Kathleen and I appreciated the joy of God’s people while in Southern California. We had the privilege of speaking to six groups of people over the course of four days during the week of January 15th. We shared in a variety of settings with people ranging from kindergarten to adults. There was great delight among all people in response to the information and the great fellowship regardless of age or context.
The supremacy of God revealed in creation empowers and equips to all who take the time to look, listen, and understand. The information we were able to share confirmed God’s word as true and was received with gratitude. We proclaimed God’s Word, displayed photos, and shared stories all for the purpose of highlighting the majesty of the Creator as sovereign over all things. The atmosphere of teaching with the emphasis upon our King provided the means for something much greater than the transference of information to take place. We engaged the hearts of people.
The ultimate goal of speaking to a group of people about God and Grand Canyon is not to give information. That can be done through a variety of mediums such as books, DVD’s, and articles. The true intent is to use the information to connect the hearts of the listeners to the heart of God. Of course, God does the work of transforming hearts. However, we have the humble privilege (by God’s invitation) to participate in the process. We communicate to connect and engage a community of people.
Our Creator gave us the gift of communication so that we can connect with the community of people where we work and play. Ephesians 4:29 (ESV) says, “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”
