God Is Still On His Throne
The recent election has driven many Christians to find hope in the assurance that, “God is still on His throne.” In fact, I too expressed this confidence in a Facebook post about 2 weeks before the election. But what does that mean? What are we attempting to express to ourselves and others?
Psalm 103:19 says, “The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all.”
Jesus says in Matthew 28:18, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”
Paul writes about Jesus in Colossians 1:16-18, “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities – all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
What we see expressed in these passages is that because Jesus is the creator of all, He is sovereign over all. He alone has the true authority over all things. His is the supreme throne that sits above all earthly thrones. Nothing escapes Him. Nothing surprises Him. Nothing thwarts His power, authority, or purpose. Those who surrender to Him and dedicate their lives to Him find themselves under His care, provision, and protection. The ebbs and flows of earthly power are in submission to His ultimate authority (sovereignty).
From this supreme position, God declares through His servant, Paul in Romans 13:1, “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.” This is our great comfort and encouragement. We know and believe that God is the authority over all the earth. IN the beginning God created the heavens and the earth and therefore all of creation is subject to Him. This is why it is so important to recognize God as the Creator of all things. Removing Him as creator removes His sovereign authority and affronts His character.
Grand Canyon provides powerful physical evidence that God is Creator. What we observe and investigate within those majestic walls affirms to us that God is the All-powerful creator of the universe. He was and is and always will be in charge. This is the strength of the Saints as we move ahead.
“To God be the glory! Great things He has done! So loved He the world that he gave us His Son. Who yielded His life an atonement for sin, and opened the lifegate that all may go in.”
Praiseallujiah!
