Three people sit side by side on wooden chairs, gazing quietly at the vast expanse of the Grand Canyon’s North Rim. The layered rock formations and misty blue hues create a breathtaking backdrop as they share the tranquil moment together, surrounded by natural beauty under a clear sky.

Grand Canyon North Rim Dragon Bravo Fire

We at Canyon Ministries are deeply saddened by the devastation caused by the Dragon Bravo Fire, which ignited on July 4, 2025, and has since consumed over 8,500 acres on the North Rim. The wildfire destroyed the beloved historic Grand Canyon Lodge, along with approximately 70–80 other structures, including park staff housing and visitor facilities. As flames surged, fueled by dry conditions and sudden high winds, the fire shifted and spread quickly, leading to the tragic loss of this architectural and cultural treasure.

We hold close in prayer everyone impacted by this fire—Park Service personnel, concession staff, residents, and visitors—we share in your grief and stand with you in the road to recovery.

We extend our heartfelt thanks—and lift up in prayer—the firefighters, emergency responders, and volunteer crews who have risked everything to protect visitors, staff, and the park’s precious resources. Their courage, resilience, and sacrifice remind us of our call to serve and persevere in the face of adversity.

I spoke with Fox 10 News on July 13—just one day after the lodge was lost—to reflect on the deep sense of grief this community is feeling, as well as the hope we still hold onto. I shared what this historic loss means to so many of us who love the North Rim, and emphasized that from this devastation, “we’re expecting a number of grassroots movements… to help rebuild.” Already, efforts are underway to raise community support and provide financial relief for those impacted by the Dragon Bravo Fire.

Staying the Course—Tours Still Operating

While the North Rim remains closed for the rest of the 2025 season, all is not lost. We are grateful that the South Rim stays open, offering the same awe-inspiring vistas and spiritual refreshment. Canyon Ministries’ South Rim tours continue as scheduled, and all river trips are operating without interruption this season. Together in hope and prayer, we remember the Lodge, and we look forward to the day it can be rebuilt and restored. Your continued support, patience, and faith keep us moving forward. Let’s continue lifting up this community and the beloved canyon we call home.

I remember sitting in these very chairs last year after a hike down the North Rim. So sad to hear it is all lost!
