Mount St. Helens Tour with Answers in Genesis

Mount St. Helens and the Message in the Mountain: 45 Years Later
It’s been 45 years since the landscape of the Pacific Northwest was forever changed by one of the most significant geological events in modern history. On May 18, 1980, Mount St. Helens erupted with explosive force, sending a massive plume of ash skyward, leveling 230 square miles of forest, and carving out an entirely new terrain in just hours.
For those of us involved in biblical creation ministry, Mount St. Helens continues to stand as a powerful testimony—a living laboratory that challenges long-age assumptions and affirms what we observe in the Grand Canyon and beyond: geologic change doesn’t always take millions of years. Sometimes, it happens in moments.
At Canyon Ministries, we’ve spent nearly three decades guiding people through the wonders of the Grand Canyon, pointing to evidence of catastrophic processes consistent with the biblical record of a global Flood. But Mount St. Helens offers a unique modern parallel—catastrophic deposition, rapid erosion, and the formation of finely layered sedimentary structures, canyons, and unique deposits, all in a matter of days, not eons.
The events at Mount St. Helens provide creation geologists with a rare, real-time case study. In just a few short years following the eruption, geologists documented the formation of a “mini Grand Canyon,” complete with 100-foot-deep channels carved by mudflows through solid rock-like deposits. What we’re witnessing is a smaller-scale model of what could have occurred on a global level during and after the Flood described in Genesis.
Join Us at Mount St. Helens — August 18–22, 2025
To mark this 45th anniversary milestone, we’re excited to invite you to join Canyon Ministries and other biblical creation leaders for a special Mount St. Helens Explore Excursion hosted by Answers in Genesis. From August 18–22, 2025, we’ll explore this remarkable mountain together—on guided hikes, during engaging presentations, and through powerful discussions that connect the dots between science, Scripture, and the stunning evidence found in this landscape.
Join a dynamic team of speakers and guides for four days of unforgettable adventure and discovery at Mount St. Helens. Featured presenters from Answers in Genesis include Dr. Jennifer Rivera, Dr. Dana Sneed, Dr. Terry Mortenson, Roger Patterson (“Mr. P”), Bryan Osborne, and Patricia Engler.
They’ll be joined by renowned geologist Dr. Steve Austin, forest ecologist Dr. Keith Swenson, Bill Hoesch (Director of the Mount St. Helens Creation Center), John Hergenrather, Eric Hovind (Creation Today), Nate Loper (Canyon Ministries), and geologist Edward Isaacs.
Together, this expert team will lead guided hikes and presentations, helping us examine the powerful evidence of rapid, catastrophic processes—and consider what it reveals about the Creator’s power, purpose, and design.
Don’t Miss This Opportunity
Whether you’ve stood on the rim of the Grand Canyon with us before or are new to the world of creation geology, this trip offers a chance to deepen your understanding in a profoundly personal and awe-inspiring way. Mount St. Helens is more than a mountain—it’s a message in stone, a modern monument to catastrophic power and God’s faithful design.
We’d love for you to stand with us there.
