News, Noise, and Nonsense

campsitefromabove

Take a moment to Google, Yahoo, or Bing “Creation Science in the news”.  Search it in your Twitter account and Google+ account.  You will find no lack of information.  Blogs, tweets, posts, updates, articles, and videos abound.  The information age has become information overload.  But is it really information?  How much of the noise is simply opinionated nonsense?  The ease and opportunity of communication via technology has made it possible to casually purport opinion as if they were fact (that’s my opinion, at least).  The cacophony of messages reaching our minds and ears make it easy to think less when what is actually required is for us to think more.  Every article and every speaker can sound so very convincing.

Proverbs 18:17 says, “The first to present his case seems right, till another comes forward and questions him.”

It is vital that we think our way through life.  The avalanche of information may drive you mad, but now is the time to engage our brains and filter out the noise and nonsense.  Let me give you an example.  One of the information placards at the south rim of the Grand Canyon says that like a large conveyor belt the Colorado River removes the debris from the canyon carving it wider and deeper.  On another placard we are told that some of the rapids are created by debris that flows in from side canyons and blocks the Colorado River.  The river is unable to remove the debris so a rapid is formed.  So which is it?  Is the river removing the debris or not?

Jesus commands us to love God with all our mind.  Romans 12:2 calls us to be transformed by the renewing of our mind.  God’s people are thinking people.  James tells us that whomever needs or lacks wisdom needs only to ask for it and it will be given.  We must think our way through the news, noise, and nonsense.

PRAISEALLUJIAH!
