SHARE IT! : Get Ready

With great excitement, we announce the launch of the first phase of the SHARE IT program.  SHARE IT stands for, Speak – Help – Awaken – Restore – Equip. Phase 1 is a call to “Get Ready.”  Let’s look at what God’s word has to say about being ready.

“but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear”  1 Peter 3:15 (NKJV)

God’s Word clearly calls us to be aware of our surroundings and ready to proclaim His wonders. A life of readiness is an act of obedience.  Conversely, an unprepared life is an act of disobedience.

“Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.”  Ephesians 6:14–15 (ESV)

My son, Monte, and I enjoyed serving together on a river trip.  Our feet carried gear, led hikes, provided stability for others as they struggled through challenging scrambles, delivered food and water to weary rafters, and brought the good news of God’s Word.  Our flip flops served us well day by day, but feet still take a bit of a beating.

Sticks, rocks, and dry desert climate add to the turmoil feet must endure to accomplish the foundational dirty work they employ.  It’s important not to ignore these often unsung heroes of river life.  Lotions, clippers, and the occasional rub down may seem a bit soft for a burly river runner, but feet need to be fitted with readiness.  Without these modes of locomotion the body just doesn’t get done what needs doing.

Fit your feet and move out!  We’ve been given a hope that is sure and certain and we’ve been called out by our Commander and Chief to always be ready.  Clip, lotion, and rub down those means of migration so that they are ready at all times with eagerness and peace.  Oh the places we will go, people we will meet, and miracles we will witness if we are ready for the road ahead!

“All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16–17 (ESV)

The focus of our preparation is God’s Word.  Our readiness is tied to our commitment to knowing and living the truth given to us through the Scriptures.

The “Get Ready” phase is designed to prepare us for the work God has for us to do.  Our yearning is to be equipped physically, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually.  We want to present to God a vessel set for action and eager to serve.  Over the next 4 months we will bring to you an assortment of resources targeted at that objective.  The material made available to you will be what many would consider “devotional” in nature.  However, there will also be some very practical resources for physical preparation and preparing for a Canyon Ministries adventure above or below the rim of the canyon.

A dedicated page on our website is available for you to receive encouragement, access resources, and provide feedback. It’s easy to remember too!  Just go to CanyonMinistries.org/ShareIt.  We are eager to hear how we can serve you.  We also want to hear how you are using the resources and the impact God is having through your use of those resources.

This video offers a great place to begin.  We encourage you to use it as a discussion starter with your family, Sunday school group, or home Bible study group. Click on the link to see the video where you can also freely download it, then visit our SHARE IT page to download some discussion starter questions for you to use.

Share these resources with as many as you can.  Together we will encourage thousands to live the life Christ died for us to have.  Keep coming back to the SHARE IT page on our website as we will regularly add material.  What we do, we do together!
