Horseshoe Bend, Arizona – A Gem of the Colorado River
Horseshoe Bend is a spectacular place to visit near the Grand Canyon. Though technically (and often mistakably attributed) it is not part of the Grand Canyon National Park, which begins a few miles downstream at Lees Ferry. Nor is it Marble Canyon quite yet. Horseshoe Bend is in Glen Canyon, and sits about halfway between the Glen Canyon Dam and Lees Ferry. In September of 2022, we took 50 people on an amazing 4-day tour of multiple parks in celebration of the 25 years Canyon Ministries has been leading

Forever Family
We often have a phrase we like to use around here, and that’s “forever family”. With an understanding that this place is not our ultimate destination, but as Billy Graham would say, “I’m just passing through this world”, we have the incredible opportunity to make memories together on this earth that may very well be talked about for eternity. What more GRAND place to make those memories and draw close to our Creator than the grandest canyon on earth? Olive Garden used to say, “When you’re here, you’re family.” Well,
Whatever My Lot
Horatio Spafford was a nineteenth-century lawyer and real estate investor in Chicago. He and his wife Anna passed their financial success on to thousands of people in need. Their incredible generosity was motivated by their love for Jesus and deep convictions of faith. God also blessed Horatio and Anna with 5 children (1 son and 4 daughters) whom they taught to love God and others with genuine hearts. In 1871, Horatio and Anna faced great heartache and loss. During that year, their four-year-old son was lost to scarlet fever
Be Still And Know
Most people are doers. We want tasks accomplished, problems solved, and goals achieved. Our independent and self-reliant minds look to dig in and get it done. In many instances, this is good and required. However, action without thought and clear direction can lead to more problems rather than solutions. As a younger lad, I often got myself into trouble due to a lack of thinking. I’d hop on my bike, strap down my skis, or start to climb before I took the time to consider what I was about
WOW
We are nearly at the halfway mark of the 2019 river season. Our time at the bottom of Grand Canyon is always super sweet. Great friendships, scenery, and adventure combine in the most perfect blend of sights, sounds, and emotions. As always, the most common word spoken is, WOW! I have always attributed this to the flood of beauty overwhelming the eyes and brain. I still believe this to be true, but I have come to learn that there is more going on with every WOW moment. The word
Ellsworth and Emery Kolb Book
In 1911, Ellsworth and Emery Kolb embarked on a wild adventure retracing the route Major John Wesley Powell took in 1869. What the Kolb brothers called, “The Big Trip” began on the Green River in Wyoming. They spent 101 days traveling the canyons of Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, and Arizona to film the first motion picture of running the rapids and exploring the canyons of the Southwest. This photographic quest challenged their mental and physical abilities unlike anything they had pursued previously. They endured heat, cold, broken equipment, and the
The Best Ballad Ever Written
I'm a huge fan of the classic western ballads. I like a song that gets somewhere and tells a compelling story. The best ballads make you laugh, cry, shudder a bit, and leave you inspired. There have been some fantastic ballad writers/singers over the years: Marty Robbins, Jimmy Dean, Johnny Cash, John Denver, Tom T. Hall and many others. However, these are completely forgettable names when compared to the ballad God wrote when He formed Grand Canyon. The Ballad of Grand Canyon inspires from the first note. Launching from Lee's
