This Day in History
On this day in history, March 27, 1775, Thomas Jefferson was elected to the Continental Congress. Jefferson would go on to write the Declaration of Independence, adopted and signed on July 4, 1776. This document remains as the foundation of our United States of America. When was the last time you read the declaration? Have you ever read the declaration? Click here to read it. As you read it, you will notice a couple of foundational truths upon which the Declaration solidly stands.
“the separate and equal Station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s GOD entitle them”
Notice here that the founding fathers recognized that even the creation is defined by truth and that same creation is stationed under the sovereignty of God (in submission to Him).
“We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their CREATOR, with certain unalienable Rights”
Furthermore, the truth that man was created by the Creator is a foundational truth that undergirds our country. Unfortunately, these foundational truths are being either re-interpreted or ignored to justify the lustful nature of fallen man. When the apostle Paul was speaking to the church in Rome (Romans 1), he appealed to the proclamation of truth made by creation and faith in its (and our) Creator as his defense against their attitudes and actions. This is the same pattern of defense written by Thomas Jefferson and signed by our forefathers that established our governmental beginnings. As we see these truths bludgeoned by today’s culture, we see the strength of our country crumbling.
Grand Canyon exposes the geological foundation of our continents. We see written within those canyon walls a chronology of our past that is powerfully consistent with the description of our past provided by God as recorded in Genesis. This past is affirmed throughout the history of the patriarchs, by Jesus, and the early church. As we read the “words” of Grand Canyon, we are impressed with the significance of the foundation of all things. An adventure in Grand Canyon with Canyon Ministries sets our feet on solid ground for all areas of life.
“He set the earth on its foundations, so that it shall never be moved.” Psalm 104:5
