Why Genealogies?
We have stated many times that Canyon Ministries is about people. There can be no other way, for that is the heart of God. The character of God (as revealed to us by Him) is the blueprint for understanding life. This is a significant truth to cling to as we work to understand and respond to what we experience in this life. It is equally significant as we respond to Scripture. The Holy Bible is not a collection of wise philosophies and pragmatic instructions compiled for
Millions of Years, Evolution, and the Bible
From time to time I hear the comment that how we interpret the creation account recorded in Genesis doesn't really matter. "Besides." I hear said, "God could have done it however He wanted to do it." Every cell of my being agrees with that statement. God absolutely could have done it however He wanted to do it. The issue is not how God could have done it, but rather what He said He did. I believe God's own words state that all things in the heavens and on earth
According to Their Kinds
The big horn sheep is an impressive animal to see. Without fear, they skip and jump around the rocks and ledges of the Grand Canyon. They seem completely unaffected by the large blue raft full of scampering passengers, diving for their cameras. Amidst our oohs and ahhs, they simply go about their business of eating and lazing in the sun or shade. It's great fun for the rafters and I am convinced there are times a slight grin creases the mouth of the sheep as well. Genesis 1:24-25 says,
A GRAND Canyon
What makes the Grand Canyon, "Grand"? To some degree, the answer is subjective. The Grand Canyon impacts people in vastly different ways. It evokes a sense of awe in us all, but for different reasons. It may be the size, display of colors, wide open expanse, wildlife, vegetation, or a wide host of other possibilities. Regardless, I believe each of us can find our fit in one of these areas. The immense size of the Grand Canyon nearly takes your breath away the first time you see it. Tom
Genesis and Jesus
In John chapter 5, Jesus is providing powerful testimony to the truth of who He is. He concludes His testimony with words that reveal His opinion of how we are to read and interpret Genesis. John 5:45-47 says, "But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set. If you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote about Me. But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what
Bending and Believing
Kathleen and I had the privilege of hiking in Sedona with Guy Forsythe on December 17. Guy is the founder of Crying Rocks Ministry in Sedona. Please take the time to check out his website at www.cryingrocks.org. Guy was gracious enough to take some time and show us the folding in the Coconino sandstone found around Sedona. This is the same Coconino sandstone that is the third layer in the Grand Canyon. This particular sandstone has been the focus of conflict in regards to its origin. The evolutionist
Tangible Truth
The first century world celebrated deep intellect, philosophical quandary, and debate. City centers were established as a place for people to debate the latest trend in philosophy and ideas. This was the sport of the day. A good living could be made by someone crafty with words and well traveled. As Rome established trade routes and road systems, this became evermore prevalent. It was into this culture that Paul warned the church in Colosse not to become held captive by shallow philosophy that depends upon the world rather than
The Importance of the Beginning
The beginning of a matter is significant to the whole. Where one begins greatly influences where one ends. In the movie, "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade", Indiana was required to find the perceived location of the holy grail. His father had done copious amounts of research dedicated to the discovery of the grail; the cup of Christ. He had journaled his research entirely within one book. His research included a very detailed map that gave the precise location of the grail and explicit directions to get there. However,
Don’t Forget What He Said
Much of modern science works under the principle that today's geological processes are the key to understanding geological history. Today's rates of erosion, decay, and material deposition (among others) are used to extrapolate back and determine the length of time it took to reach the current geologic condition of the earth. Although that may appear logical, there are geological problems that require the idea to be discarded. The following are only five examples of geological features we see today that no modern process can explain. 1. The Grand Canyon
